I hope to continue my student career at GMU. GMU ranks among the top research universities in the country, with experience studying important international topics such as disease, medicine and the environment. Through INTO program, I feel that GMU is a university that interprets and applies what I learn. The school aims to achieve academic excellence, student-centred teaching goals, and to pursue ever-changing forms of research and programs. As the above statement shows, I am eager to increase my understanding of food science and safety through some laboratory projects and community service. Therefore, GMU is my ideal university.

I have an ideal plan for my graduate career
Learn professional knowledge
I hope I can continue to learn professional knowledge, especially food chemistry, food microbiology and food raw materials. These courses are crucial to the research direction I am interested in. My ideal field is food storage technology, food safety control and functional food development. I will study the characteristics of various food raw materials, the influence of food chemical components on the physical and chemical properties of food, and the influence of food microorganisms as pollution sources and pathogens on food.
Laboratory projects
I took a lot of courses as an undergraduate, which also occupied my time to participate in experimental projects outside the course. It wasn't until my senior year that I participated in my first experimental project on functional food development. For how to develop a new food project, how to develop new food production and preservation technology through experimental means, these are the fields I urgently need to understand and master. I will participate in other experimental projects to increase my understanding of food market demand and proficiency in laboratory skills.
Community activities
Through these projects, I will have a better understanding of the market demand of food items and technologies and determine the future research direction.
Why do I choose nuitrition and food science?
The reasons why I choose food as my major are as follows. First of all, I was very interested in chemistry and biology courses in high school, so I am willing to learn about the physical and chemical properties of food, food safety control (chemical contamination, microbial pathogens) and further study in food major. Secondly, I am fully aware that in my country, people have not yet fully matured the food science engineering and food safety control system. I once worked as an assistant investigator in the Food and Drug Administration in my hometown of Hefei for some time. Even in big cities, there are often inadequate cold chain storage of food and substandard safety controls. Not to mention that in some rural areas, people don't have the resources or means to make and store food safely. Therefore, I hope to further study relevant knowledge, or help people in my hometown to eat healthier and more secure food in other aspects. Thirdly, I want to do my best for the development of food engineering and food safety in our country by learning relevant knowledge, researching and promoting more advanced technical means of food preparation and storage.
